A NEW ENTRY IN MY ROSTER:
ARIE DI SICILIA
a sound journey in folk music from harvest-field - 1800 to the present day
a sound journey in folk music from harvest-field - 1800 to the present day
Oriana Civile - vocals
Maurizio Curcio - piano, 10-string Chapman Stick, acoustic guitar, drum, laptop
Duration: c. 75 minutesMaurizio Curcio - piano, 10-string Chapman Stick, acoustic guitar, drum, laptop
The impetus behind this performance, which presents Sicilian traditional themes, comes from the need to introduce these beautiful melodies in their original form.
The arrangements are created in a very minimal style, with the aim of being faithful to the spirit of the genre and give the songs their proper artistic and cultural emphasis.
On stage the instruments used, in addition to the piano, are a 10-string Chapman Stick, an acoustic guitar, a drum kit and a laptop.
The musicians present a sound journey across folk melodies collected in the field by many ethnomusicological researchers, from past centuries till the present day. Many are songs revived by contemporary authors who in the realization of their work have embraced the heritage of folk traditions and want to witness a still evolving culture.
The smooth voice and the gentle sound of Oriana Civile's dialect forms the basis of the project. At the same time, her interest and her ethnomusicology studies lead the audience to a broader understanding of the contextualization of traditional songs, through the narration of slices of popular life extracted from various publications on the subject.
Maurizio Curcio's twenty year experience in the area of electronic music and his flexibility as arranger-instrumentalist allow the audience to be transported through a unique experience during the concert. The sound design accompanying the melodies is tightly organised, with live electronics allowing the artists to create unique and often very richly orchestrated sound textures in real time.

Una bella recensione di Angelo Leonardi su All About Jazz Italia

Enrico Blumer Production's last release
TOKYO 2674 is something that comes from my experience of science fiction fanatic, as a reader of giants like Asimov, K. Dick, Bradbury and collector of a particular genre of movies that Hollywood and Toho started to produce during mid '50.
I always been interested in everything concerning the future of mankind, planet Earth and Universe. My dreams give me the possibility to believe in my projects, like the music of Tokyo 2674: a voyage into a parallel reality made of pure imagination.
This production has required over ten months of intense work, writing scores and building a special technology developed for the interaction between acoustic instruments and synthesized sounds. Multiple aspects from different kind of genres are integrated into a unique “universal sound” recorded in hi-definition also for vinyl pressing.
I was born during late '70s , living a period of radical innovation in technology, with early home computer games, video players and personal computers. As a composer, I'm now using computer and electronic devices mixed with traditional ways of creating music, also during synthesizers programming. Project Delos joins everything about worlds I explored during my life: classical approach and innovation in computer aided music.
For this album, I decided to use also vintage machines like Rhodes and monophonic synthesizers of different kind, mixed with latest software generators specially programmed in a different way for each song.
After building my own “sound machine”, I started to produce an album that you can imagine like a personal sci-fi movie, realizing a dream that only music can give life to.
Tokyo 2674 tells a story about voyages, explorations of the unknown and reflections of our present into the future, everything setted in a place that I really love. Japan is a country that loves Italian style. As a musician, I travelled in Asia to play in different situations, but never in Tokyo or other cities that I dream to visit with this new project. Niccolo' Faraci, Andrea Esperti, Lorenzo Paesani and Alessandro Blasi hope to invite you in our special voyage to the future with Project Delos: Tokyo 2674!
